From the Crew – Houston 2018 Recap

Hello St. Luke’s…. The Crew is back from Houston, Texas!! We first want to thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His protection and provision while on the road to the 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering. It was a great and beautiful adventure. On our travels, we were able to capture green rolling hills that went on without end, rocky block-like mountains that sit in the hottest part of our land, and acres of farm land and animal life that is so unique, it’s hard to put into words.

Our Crew set off from St. Luke’s early Monday morning, and arrived in Albuquerque, New Mexico that evening. We were greeted with such warmth and were cared for just like family by St. Luke’s of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We next saddled up and headed south, right down the middle of Texas, and arrived in San Antonio late that afternoon. We were in awe as we arrived at Concordia Lutheran Church. Its massive 45-acre campus was a sight to see.

The next day our quest for Houston began! Hotel registrations, convention check-in, meet and greet, and an explosive mass event at the NRG Arena were AMAZING!! Our youth were able to connect with other youth groups that live right here in our own backyard. In-OrangeFollowing, the Crew enjoyed a Synod day with locals from California, diving into the Word of God and embracing the event of Jesus with the woman at the well. Each Crew member was reminded that God could change anyone and anything.

The last full day in Houston was filled with a Service Learning Day. While Houston is healing from Hurricane Harvey, everyone in our group got a chance to play a role in that process by serving with clean up, stocking, and organizing items. What a blessing it is to give BACK!!

IndoorsWell, our trip had to come to an end in Houston as we prepared for safe travels back to Long Beach, California. We took a different route back to Cali, arriving first at Ascension Lutheran Church in El Paso, Texas, and last at Esperanza Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona. We are forever grateful to all of you that donated and supported us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It’s because of church family like you that our youth were able to experience such a powerful testament of what God is doing across this nation and become a part of the change in this world.

Thank You,

THE CREW
